About Our School .

Põlva Co-Educational Gymnasium was founded in 1833 (1908). Back then it was known under a different name, in 1950 – 1987 Põlva High School and in 1988 – 1996 J. Käisi denominative Põlva High School. But in 1997 the school was renamed as Põlva Co-Educational Gymnasium. At that time there were 1042 students in our school.
Now we have (only) 719 students, 51 teachers and 59 classrooms in our school. (In 2011/2012 our computer classes got 40 new computers). Põlva Co- Educational Gymnasium school, students can study 12 years.

Our headmaster is Koit Nook. He is quite friendly. He has been our headmaster for 4 years and Koit Nook has done well in these 4 years. Of course, our teachers have also been very good through the years.

In 2009/2010 our school started to create branch classes from grade 7. In the end of the 6th grade students have to choose between a sciences, biology, culture and languages branch to continue studying in grade 7. The good thing is that you can learn 8 different languages in our school : Estonian, English, Russian, German, Finnish, Spanish , France and Swedish. But there are things to do beside studying in our school ( in your free time), for example: basketball, brass band, girls band, swimming, acting class , folk dance and many other things. Our school is a great place to study and to make other activities. :)
